Hello again!

We're starting to get sick of the sluggishness, weakness, and feature issues with .NET, and you probably are too. So, for the first time since the first hosting of the CX Website, we will try to migrate our application from .NET to Trolltech's fantastic Qt Framework!!!

Qt is a powerful, cross-platform C++ GUI toolkit written by Trolltech that can provide the more features and better performance than .NET ever will be able to provide. It can run on Windows, Mac OS X, Linux/X11, Windows CE/Mobile, Embedded Linux, Symbian, and Maemo platforms! The famous KDE Environment for *NIX is written in C++ with Qt. With the amazing power of Qt, our applications will be faster, more powerful, better documented, and cross-platform. CX applications will thrive and have a much larger developer community based around it.

On the downside, though, is that we must learn C++ to use it. The syntax appears to be similar to C#, so our knowledge C# should help us make the transition a bit easier.

Textfusion 1.0 Work in Progress and CX Source Code Status

Wassuuuup y'all; my homies?

Sorry, I just wanted to try a new greeting other than "hi" or "hello" :-) Anyway, I would just like to say that Textfusion 1.0 will be released very soon and its source code will be uploaded. And speaking of source code, I noticed that the state of our source code is quite bad at the moment. Many of our projects do not have any code uploaded, such as Flashplayer.Net, and whatever code we do have is lazily constructed and rarely commented. I will try to remedy that.

You know what? I'm sick of the fact that Yola (the website builder/hoster used here) has a very small amount of storage space. Perhaps we could get our projects hosted on SourceForge...

IMPORTANT SOURCE CODE CHANGE!

Hi!

Firstly, I want to just say that except for Pioneer Web, I have finally managed to get all of the previous website's files uploaded! I decided not to add the Pioneer Web because it is pitifully out of date. The new web browser is called Toxic and has plenty of more features.

Now that I have given you that status update, I'd like to mention that most of our new applications' source code from now on will require two new libraries. The first is the DevExpress XtraEditors Library v9.3.2. It can give you absolutely BEAUTIFUL user interface elements and I recommend you try it. If you would like to view the source code for our newer apps, please create a free account and download the latest version from DevExpress here: http://devexpress.com/Downloads/NET/.The next thing that some projects will need is the Krypton Toolkit v4.0.0. Fortunately, you do not need an account to get this and it can be found by searching for it in Google.

Now, for those who are just average PC users, don't fret. These prerequisites are required only for those who are downloading the source code. So if you aren't into programming, you don't have to bother installing these SDK's. With these two new UI libraries, CX can have more productive and better-looking programs than ever before.

As you can see, I (Eyal) replaced the default orange banner with a CX-style new-and-improved banner. This banner is a modification of a new wallpaper that we added called Orange Flames. You can preview it at the Screenshots page and download it at the Downloads page. We have also added two other wallpapers: CX Plasma and Glossy Neurons. Why has wallpaper development skyrocketed all of a sudden? I finally learned how to use GIMP ;-) Anyway, we are progressing well. Pioneer Web 2.0 is probably going to be released either this week or the next. Altershell is progressing fast, too. Also, we have a few new features that we want to add to Flashplayer.NET.

Thursday, May 28, 2009:

Pioneer Web 2.0 is almost complete! It has many new features, such as a Page Info dialog, a Page Source window, a Spawn New Browser button, and more. As for Altershell, there has been a skinning engine added to it, the Lock Session dialog has improved, and the Alterfinder file manager is becoming like Mac OS X's finder more and more each day! Altershell's only problem is efficiency. Whenever it runs, movement on the screen slows down a lot. I'm trying to fix that. As you already know, Altershell's source code will not be released, seeing as there are proprietary code implemented there.

Oh, no! I hate my own carelessness >:-< I accidentally forgot to save my work in before closing Visual Studio today, and I lost GearBox again! Fortunately, Pioneer Web 2.0 is still there (thank God). Also, Altershell is progressing amazingly well, too. Unfortunately, I won't be able to release the source code for Altershell 1.0, seeing as it uses some proprietary components and trialware (see the post on March 17 for more details). I have been working very hard today, and I have finally managed to get ahold of the components I needed to complete the file browser, nicknamed 'Alterfinder'. Unfortunately, those components cost money, so I downloaded the 30-day trial :-(

But that's okay; I'll try to see if I'll be able to buy the full version online. When I'll get it, Altershell development will proceed at blazing speed!

Also, I've implemented a little 'Alterfinder Mini' in the RibbonBar, so you'll be able to browse your hard drive and Control Panel without ever leaving the comfort of your desktop!

Hello, all! Just as I was browsing the 'net, I came across an organization called Cairo. You may have heard of them; they're attempting to create an alternative shell for Windows. So far, they've done a fantastic job. It also inspired Benjy and I to work on our own shell (for Windows XP only). And so, a private alpha version of CX Altershell is being developed. The photo of the alpha version in action can be found in the Screenshots page.

Flashplayer.NET has been released! As we have said before, it was relatively easy to replicate. Also, we have added some new features that the previous version lacked, such as changing the picture quality and making the video loop. Sorry about the lack of updates during the past three days. My Ubuntu Linux computer had a problem and I had to fix it before updating the site. Unfortunately, we have lost all of the Tutorialpad, GearBox, Code Snippets, and Dashboard progress that we have made so far. Flashplayer.NET was lost as well, but we can easily replicate it again.

We have the Matrix simulator v1.3.0 up on the site. Over the weekend, we may be able to release an alpha version of GearBox. Also, we will add Code Snippets to the Status page. Code Snippets has Batch Script down pat, but VB.NET and VBScript will take a while to be compiled into the database.

Just today, the CX logo has been changed slightly. You may have noticed this change from the homepage. It looks cool, right? Anyway, back to development. Flashplayer.NET will be released very, very soon. Also, we have an idea for a very simple image manipulation program that we will call Inkwell. Also, CX is maturing as a group. We are starting to understand what people need and what they want.

Guess what? Textedit 1.0.3 came out for Windows (finally)! Aside from that, nothing much has happened today. Sorry that I haven't told you all yet, but we find that most of our software progressions occur more often on the weekends (Friday-Sunday). So, we haven't got much done today, but tomorrow, we will try our best to find some spare time to implement them.

Hi! The website is now 13 days old! Yay (sorry to all of those people who don't like the number 13)! Anyway, Benjy has some new ideas that we would like to incorporate into a new release of C&B Jeopardy! He's thinking of removing the window borders of the question dialogs and adding new features. I have an idea on how to improve the alpha version of Dashboard and a chunk of code that I could add to make the CMD Matrix simulator switch to fullscreen automatically!

So, to all of those superstitious people, the number 13 is very lucky for us!

Just recently, I have been working on Tutorialpad, and it is coming along quite well. I have the main dialogs, the "Save Subtitles" function, and a choice of Automatic and Manual operation. I've got the Manual setup down; it's reasonably easy. The Automatic setup is going a bit slower, but it's coming. Also, I'm finishing up Textedit for Windows. It should be released soon.

Hello, all! I've been working in GIMP and I have created the first CX wallpaper called Reflective. Although this is my first time using GIMP, it came out pretty nicely for a first try. What do you think?

Anyway, CX has also been working on the Status page and we're filling it up, if slowly. Also, we have come up with a really cool upcoming program today called CX Dashboard. It's a tray icon that can let you launch all of the CX programs you may have installed without opening the Start menu! Another cool feature that it will have is that it will have an internal web browser, which lets you browse the CX Website in it, allowing you to quickly download more plugins and source code. Speaking of source code, it will have a source code viewer that allows you to view the text files on the fly! Pretty nifty, huh?

Guess what? I've been searching on the internet for GAMBAS tutorials and tips, and I've gathered enough information to compile an alpha version of Textedit for Linux! Unfortunately, there are many functions that do absolutely nothing (yet), such as: Open, Save As, Text Font and Color dialogs, and a Background Color dialog. You can download the alpha as a .tar.gz file on the Downloads page.

Monday, February 16, 2009:

Textedit for Windows is really progressing! It will depend on the .NET Framework 3.5 SP1. It will look identical to Notepad, but will be even simpler and lighter. The Linux Textedit isn't progressing much, seeing as I'm trying to get used to GAMBAS.

We'll see how the site turns out.

The following bug fixes have been added to the source code and software:

> Textedit (Windows) BETA - Successfully added homemade Font dialog, identical to Microsoft Notepad's Font dialog.

> Pioneer Web (Windows) - More efficient tabbing technique added, numerous bug fixes.

Hello, everyone! The website is progressing well. New stuff has been added: a new MS-DOS batch file that can simulate the well known Matrix effect and the AutoShutdown batch file, which shuts your computer down in case of a critical emergency.

Naturally, the source code is free and up for grabs. You can find it at the downloads page. Textedit for Windows is coming along pretty good, too. It will probably be released at maybe a week from now. The Linux one isn't proressing much, I'm afraid. I'm just not used to using GAMBAS and not VB. Oh, well.

Anyway, the following bug fixes have been added to the source code and software:

> Mad Libs (A Tour of Hollywood), version 1.3 - Spelling corrections and colors bug fixed.

> Revised and edited source code .txt documents added to the Downloads page.

> AutoShutdown, version 1.0.1 - Yes-or-No prompt added to batch file.
